Entering Specimen Part Information
  1. The Specimen Part Details pop-up allows you to enter specimen and part information for the specimen that you added through the Order Choice Search pop-up.
  2. There are two fields of information that you may enter information into: Category and Source. In the Category field, enter information regarding the category of the specimen source, or click the search button to view a list of specimen source categories and if the specimen source category is active. In the Source field, enter information regarding the source of the specimen, or click the search button to view a list of sources for the specimen. If there are multiple pages of options available, use the arrow buttons to navigate through the list. This field is required.

Entering Specimen Part Details
  1. The Specimen Part Details pop-up allows you to enter specimen part details on each page that you chose in the Number of parts field on the Enter Specimen Part pop-up.
  2. Depending on whether or not you entered the Category and Source on the Enter Specimen Part pop-up, you may enter them now if you did not on the previous pop-up. The Source field is required. Again, you may click the search buttons to view a list of available items for each field.
  3. The Specimen Part Details pop-up displays fields for Topographical answer 1, Topographical answer 2, Anatomic location, Procedure, and CPT code(s).
  4. Click the ... button to open the Quick Comments pop-up to add a quick comment into the Topographical answer 1, Topographical answer 2, Anatomic location, or Procedure fields. Select all quick comments that you wish to add into the fields and use the Separate Comments with drop-down to separate the quick comments with a comma, semi-colon, colon, space, or vertical bar. You may also click the Postpend default drop-down to choose Postpend, Prepend, or Replace. Click the Close Window button to close without saving quick comments, or click the Save button to add quick comments to the field.
  5. Click the Insert Date/time button on the Topographical answer 1, Topographical answer 2, Anatomic location, or Procedure fields to insert the current date and time into the field. The date and time will appear in the format M/D/YYYY HH:MM AM/PM.
  6. Click the Next button at the bottom of the pop-up or the arrow buttons at the top of the pop-up to navigate between pages. The pages will display as Part 1 of 3, Part 2 of 3, Part 3 of 3, etc. It is very important to note that if a user makes a change to the order choice's specimen part information on an order and then clicks the Previous or Next button on the Specimen Part Details pop-up, the ordering screen will retain that change (the same as hitting the Save button on the Enter Specimen Part pop-up). The changes on the Enter Specimen Part pop-up are never committed to the database until the user clicks the Save button on the ordering page.
  7. Click the Add Part button to append a new row to the end of the list. Adding a part triggers a server request to prepare the new row. The pop-up must reload to properly display the new part row, so any changes made beforehand are parsed with the server request. Click the X to remove the rows from the list. The deleted rows are handled upon saving the Specimen Part Details pop-up.
  8. Once you have entered all of the necessary information, click the Save button to save the changes and return to the ordering screen. See the "Viewing Specimen Part Information" section below.

Viewing Specimen Part Information
  1. You will be able to view all of the specimen source(s) that you added to the order choice(s) in the Order Choices section of the Order Patient Samples page. The section will display the order choice, specimen source, diagnosis, sample ID priority, lab, billing, account ABN status, and then the ability to cancel the order choice(s). Click the Priority drop-down to select the priority of the order (routine, STAT, ASAP, etc.). Click the Lab drop-down to select the lab. Click the Billing drop-down to select the billing type. Click the X button to remove the order choice(s) from the list.
  2. Click on the Order Choice column link to open the Order Choice Details pop-up to view information regarding the order choice or to add an order choice comment and click on the Specimen Source column text to open the Specimen Part Details pop-up to view or edit information regarding the specimen part details. Click the Cancel button to return to the ordering screen or click the Save button to save any changes that were made.
  3. Click the Cancel button to close out of the pop-up without making any changes. The Cancel button includes additional functionality when creating new specimen parts, preventing the creation of the order choices that would have been associated with the specimen parts. The Cancel button on the Specimen Part Details pop-up varies based on whether or not the grid layout is used. When using the Specimen Part Details pop-up with grid layout, the Cancel button removes the newly created order choices associated with the new specimen part information from the order. When using the Specimen Part Details pop-up without grid layout, the cancel button triggers a "Remove Order Choices" prompt. The prompt has two buttons, "Remove Remaining" and "Remove All". The "Remove Remaining" button removes the order choice for the current part and all parts that follow, leaving those whose information has already been filled. The Remove All button removes the order choices for all of the new specimen parts. Note that the Cancel button does not remove order choices with specimen part information that are already on the order. Once the Specimen Part Details pop-up has been saved and order choices have been properly created, the new Cancel button cannot remove them.
  4. Click the Save button on the Order Patient Samples page to save the order. All required fields must have information in them to be able to save the order.
