Use the HL7 2.5.1 OIDs administration page to assign a globally unique identifier to objects that are sent in an HL7 2.5.1 message. The objects used by OIDs can represent any record within Copia's database, including, but not limited to, patients, providers, locations, encounters, order choices, next of kin, test results, and specimens. An HL7 2.5.1 OID consists of a namespace ID, the OID number, and the OID type. The namespace ID represents the local identifier for the object; the OID is the globally unique identifier assigned to an object, or in some cases, a group of objects; and the OID type describes the standard used by the OID. As of now, the OID type in Copia will always be "ISO." In order to view this page, the user must have the "View/Edit All HL7 2.5.1 OIDs (Administration > Basic Setup > System Defaults > All HL7 2.5.1 OIDs)" right enabled. When creating an OID, only the OID and the namespace ID can be defined. The OID type is not shown because it will always be set to "ISO" in Copia. The OID field will only allow numbers and periods to be entered because the ISO standard does not allow letters within OIDs. Once an OID is saved, the OID itself cannot be edited, only the namespace ID can be edited for saved OIDs.

Accessing this Page

• Click the Administration menu button, click the Basic Setup button, click the System Defaults submenu link, and then click the HL7 2.5.1 OIDs button. You must have the necessary security permissions to access the Administration menu button.

When you click the Administration menu button, Copia opens the main Administration menu, which contains administrative menu buttons, including the Basic Setup menu. To return to the main menu for Copia, click the Lab Tasks menu button.

Searching for HL7 2.5.1 OIDs

1. Enter an OID into the OID search field on the HL7 2.5.1 OIDs page to search for an existing OID. This is a search-as-you-type field.
2. Enter a namespace ID into the Namespace ID search field on the HL7 2.5.1 OIDs page to search for a namespace ID. This is a search-as-you-type field.
3. Click the Add button on the HL7 2.5.1 OIDs page to add a new OID via the Edit OIDs pop-up. See the "Adding HL7 2.5.1 OIDs" section below.

Adding HL7 2.5.1 OIDs

1. Select an HL7 2.5.1 OID type from the HL7 2.5.1 OID type drop-down list to add an HL7 2.5.1 OID type to the HL7 2.5.1 OIDs page.
2. Enter an OID into the OID field to add an OID to the HL7 2.5.1 OIDs page.
3. Enter a namespace ID into the Namespace ID field to add a namespace ID to the HL7 2.5.1 OIDs page.
4. Click the Search Existing OIDs button to search for an OID that is saved in the database. Clicking the Search Existing OIDs button will open the Select Existing OID pop-up with a search table of existing OIDs. The default values to search for will be whatever is entered for the OID and namespace ID before clicking on the search button. Enter an OID into the OID field on the Select Existing OID pop-up to search for an OID, and enter a namespace ID into the Namespace ID field to search for a namespace ID. The OID/namespace ID will be added to the Edit OIDs pop-up when the OID/namespace ID is clicked. The Select Existing OID pop-up will close after an OID/namespace ID is selected.
5. Click the Save button to add the OID/namespace ID to the HL7 2.5.1 OIDs page, or click the Cancel button to close the Edit OIDs pop-up without making any changes.
