Admin: Authentication Setup

Page Description

Use the Authentication Setup page to define which authentication methods should be used to authenticate a user signing into Copia and in what order they should be attempted.

If several are defined, then each will be attempted in the specified order until one succeeds or they all fail. Three methods exist: "Basic Copia," Active Directory," and "LDAP." "Basic Copia" is what has always existed; it has no specific configuration. It will take the user name and password and check it against the user table to find a matching user name and password. If one is found, that user is logged in. "Active Directory" and "LDAP" both take the user name and password and allow the authentication server to determine if the credentials are correct. If they are, then the user in Copia with the same user name is logged in. The Copia password has no affect in this case, but the user name must match the user name used to sign in and authenticate. If there is no user name match in Copia, then that user will not be logged in. The "Active Directory" method also has no specific configuration. It auto-discovers the server using Windows ADSI API via COM commands. The "LDAP" method has configuration for domain and server. The server field accepts the IP or the computer name and allows a custom port number if different from the default.

  2. Once you have configured methods on the Authentication Methods Setup page, you may configure authentication on the Authentication Setup page. See the Admin: Authentication Methods Setup topic.
  3. Click the Add drop-down menu to select a method and then click the Add button to add the authentication method to the table located below the drop-down menu.
  4. Click the up and down arrows to change the order of the selected methods. Click the X button to delete the method from the table.
  5. Click the OK button to return to the System Defaults page with the authentication methods or click the Cancel button to return to the System Defaults page without saving the authentication methods.
