Admin: Network Label Printers

Page Description

Use the Network Label Printers page to add or edit the printers available to assign to locations and users in the Locations administration page and the Application page.

Because using this feature enables the server to print the labels directly, there is no way of alerting users to any errors, so Copia sends errors to the Error Log instead of displaying a message. See the Admin: Error Log topic.

Adding or Editing Label Printers

  1. Use the Label Printer Configuration section of the Network Label Printers details page to add or edit a label printer.
  2. Enter the name of the label printer in the Name field. This field is required.
  3. Select the Active checkbox to enable users to select the label printer while assigning label printers on the Locations administration page or the Application lab tasks page. Clear this checkbox to restrict users from selecting the label printer. If the label printer is inactive, Copia clears it from the Network Label Printers list page when you select the Show active only checkbox. See "Viewing the Label Printer List" above.
  4. In the Description field, enter a description of the label printer. For example, you may wish to describe the model or where the printer is located.
  5. Select the Printer Type from the drop-down list. Select either "EPL2," "ZPL II," or "Labeler" from the drop-down list. If "Labeler" is selected, enter the printer name into the Network printer name field.
  6. Enter a value into the Label Darkness field to configure the darkness of the label. The default value is 10.
  7. Select the Network Label Printer radio button if the printer being used is a network label printer.
  8. Enter the IP address of the label printer in the IP Address field. This is a required field. Click the Test button to have Copia attempt to connect to the entered IP address and port number to confirm that the settings are valid. If it cannot connect successfully, check your settings, and then click Test again.
  9. Enter the number of the port in the Port field. Note that the Port field only accepts an integer between 0 and 65536. If you leave the port number blank or set it to 0, then Copia uses the default port of 9100.
  10. Select the RAPS Label Printer radio button if the printer being used is a RAPS label printer. "Labeler" can be selected with the RAPS label printer configuration. When these two items are selected in unison, the network printer name will no longer be a required field. In addition, a note will appear explaining that if no network printer name is defined, labels will be printed to the default printer selected in the Labeler executable configuration. Enter the IP address, port number, and the name of the printer into the IP Address, Port, and Name fields, respectively. The IP Address field is a required field. See the Admin: RAPS Search topic. Note that Copia displays remote label printing jobs in the "Label Printing" Outbound Queue.
  11. Select the Harvest Workstation Label Printer radio button if the printer being used is a Harvest Workstation label printer. Note that when "Labeler" is selected, the Harvest Workstation Label Printer option can be selected.
  12. Enter the name of the local lab in the Local Lab (Orchard) field, or click the magnifying glass icon to search manually. This field is required. This is a search-as-you-type field. Enter a printer name into the Workstation Printer field, or click the Search button to enter a Workstation printer name. This is a required field. There is a language column present on the data table that filters the results down to match the selected language on the Network Label Printers administration page.
  13. Click the Save button to record changes and return to the Network Label Printer list page, or click the < Back to List button to return to the Network Label Printer list page without saving any changes.
